  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or related field like child development or psychology, plus coursework on topics such as child growth and development, health and safety issues, classroom management techniques, curriculum planning methods or learning theories (e.g., Piagetian theory). If you are interested in working with infants/toddlers only then you do not need any additional coursework beyond your bachelor’s degree; however if you want to teach preschoolers then most states require at least 30 hours of specialized training beyond your bachelor’s degree as well including 10 hours on how best practices apply specifically within preschool classrooms.*
