What is the basic eligibility of getting into the Master’s course |
| The Department currently has 35 seats for the postgraduate course. Students passing the Honours course in Statistics from any college under Calcutta University are eligible to apply. The selection would be based on the marks obtained in the Honours Examination. However, 5% of the seats (that is two seats)are meant (not reserved) for students having a Bachelor’s Degree with First Class Honours in Statistics from any Registered University. Selection of such students will be based on their suitability for the course as judged through an interview.

It is still considered to be one of the best statistics department in the country in terms of of its research output, syllabus, teaching and stident quality. Its syllabus is a model to the other universities and it is the first department in the country to design two new courses a few years back viz. statistics for development and evolution of statistical concepts and later these were in the M.Sc. syllabus.
The students of the department have been consistently doing well in the Indian Statistical Service Examination conducted by UPSC and in the NET, GATE examinations. |
