Users are requested to follow up our Notice section for their requied information.   A Brief Profile of the Department.  Department of Statistics, University of Calcutta, Position in the Country  • It is still considered to be one of the best statistics department in the country in terms of of its research output, syllabus, teaching and stident quality. Its syllabus is a model to the other universities and it is the first department in the country to design two new courses a few years back viz. ‘statistics for development’ and ‘evolution of statistical concepts’ and later these were in the M.Sc. syllabus. The students of the department have been consistently doing well in the Indian Statistical Service Examination conducted by UPSC and in the NET, GATE examinations.
